SERVICES PROVIDED
Reseating:
Chairs, stools and Bergère couches:
There are an enormous number of differently designed furniture seats from square, rectangular, trapezium, drop-in, circular, etc. Cane work also comprises many different ways of weaving the cane into a variety of designs
Framework repairs:
The following examples frequently occur: hidden spars beneath the seat needing repaired or replaced, broken joints, seat bases needing renewed and, on rush seats, the protective wooden straps around the outer seat may need replacing.
Stain restoration:
Customers’ preference sometimes involves cleaning the general appearance of the woodwork. Maybe the chair has been stored in the loft and needs freshening, old varnish removed, the original stain restored and protective lacquer applied.
French polishing:
If a stain has been removed or an upholstered seat replaced with a cane seat, the general condition of the wood may need French polishing.
Woodworm treatment:
Many of the seats that do come to me are old and at sometime have had woodworm. Just in case there are signs of activity, the chairs are sprayed with suitable chemical. This protects the future life of the chair but also protects other furniture I may have in for repair.
Cane colouring:
If the item to be reseated is one of a pair or part of a set then customers do ask if I can age the cane to match.
Collection & delivery service:
This can be provided, although a charge will be made for this. We do have an arrangement with a furniture removal company that covers the UK and Europe to transport items to us.
Tutorial Residential week-ends:
These can be arranged through Adult learning centres like Higham Hall near Cockermouth in Cumbria and Alston Hall, Longridge, Preston, UK. Other colleges, village groups who may require my services need only ask.
Talks about Cane & Rush Reseating:
These usually last about 45 minutes to 1 hour and include a demonstration, if requested, slide show and quiz. Recent increases in fuel charges have increased my fee to £60.00. This includes travel, materials and set-up costs.
Lloyd Loom repairs:
Full furniture restoration service includes, seat renewal, broken strands replaced, glass retention brackets replaced if broken, new feet cups replaced in brass, copper or chrome. Furniture re-sprayed to chosen colour.
